“It’s really important for us to create this thing that’s something for us by us.”
“A lot of this uncomfortability around sex and a lot of the miscommunication and myths around sex come from improper sex education, not even from high school, but in our own homes.”
“What used to be a death sentence isn’t anymore but when you look at PEP and PrEP those are things that in the Black community you don’t hear a lot about.”
These are just some of the topics you will hear us talk about on the latest episode of Afterglow Podcast. CeCe and Voodoo, the show’s hosts, attended #UpspokenLive in Los Angeles last summer and invited us to come vibe on season 2 of their show. Like Upspoken, these two California Black women dish some knowledge, spill the tea on love and give us their unfiltered perspective when it comes to sex and relationships.
From the importance of Black women seeing themselves in sexual health resources to the nitty gritty of PEP and PrEP, we chatted about the importance for us, as Black women, to empower ourselves to own our sexual health. We also took a step back to discuss the daily realities we deal with and how health campaigns can better meet Black women where they are, because let’s be honest sis, there’s a lot going on, so it’s time we start prioritizing our sexual health.
Upspoken is a community for Black women of all ages, backgrounds, and relationship statuses to have a voice and speak our truth. Thanks to Afterglow for allowing us to share what’s been going on and what’s next for Upspoken.
