Trust the healing process. It takes time, support + work.

Healing is often described as a journey that unfolds in its own time. It is not something we can rush or force, and it is not a straight path.
“Trust the healing process. It takes time, support and work.”
For many Black women, life has encouraged a constant push to keep going no matter what. The above practices challenges that. It offers a moment to pause and reconnect with a more compassionate truth. Healing is not a test of will. It is a gradual process that deserves patience and care.
Healing Takes Time
We live in a world that often expects instant results. When healing feels slow, it’s easy to wonder if we’re doing something wrong. The truth is that healing doesn’t always happen overnight. Emotions need room to settle. Experiences need space to be understood. Our bodies and minds need time to recover and find balance. Trusting the timing of your own process is an act of honoring your needs.
Healing Requires Support
Support is not a luxury. It’s a vital part of healing. Many of us have learned to hold everything alone, yet connection can offer comfort, clarity and grounding. Whether the support comes from loved ones, a mental health professional, a community circle or the affirming work of Upspoken, powered by California Black Women’s Health Project (CABWHP), walking with others can make the healing process feel lighter and more sustainable.
Healing Takes Work
Healing asks for intention and practice. It invites us to explore old wounds, release patterns that no longer serve us and learn new ways of caring for ourselves. The work may look different from day to day. Sometimes the work is rest. Sometimes it is choosing joy. Sometimes it is allowing yourself to feel what comes up without judgment. What matters is the willingness to continue showing up for yourself.
Progress Does Not Need To Be Linear
Progress does not need to follow a straight line to be meaningful. And it often doesn’t. Some days will feel productive. Other days may feel heavy or still. Both are part of the journey. Healing remains real and valuable even when it comes with pauses, setbacks or small steps. The path is allowed to be imperfect.
