Powered by California Black Women’s Health Project, we create spaces where Black women together to freely and unapologetically share our stories and embrace each other’s experiences.
We start with a simple idea: make space for Black women to speak freely and unapologetically about how we move through a world that too often tries to quiet our voices or dim our light. This is our time to show up fully — in our truth, our power and our royalty (RoyalTea). Bold, authentic, unfiltered — and always Upspoken.

Art of Liberation | August 29th + August 30th | Los Angeles, CA
Art of Liberation is a celebration of healing, creativity and community through the voices and visions of local Black artists. Centered on Black women of all gender identities and expressions, including cis, trans and femme, this empowering gathering features art in various forms, including visual art, writings, music, spoken word and storytelling. Together, we’ll explore themes of liberation, self-expression and joy while honoring our truths, affirming our identities and building connections rooted in love, resistance and care.

Our powerful community of Black women — across generations, identities and experiences — come together to create something unforgettable. Through art, they open up conversations about what it truly means to be Upspoken. With the support and energy of an audience full of empowered Black women, they share stories that felt personal, collective and deeply true.
“What does being Upspoken mean to you?”
Stories of discovering for the first time we were Black. Stories of being told to hide our bodies (and beautiful curves) because we should be ashamed. Stories of losing ourselves and finding ourselves in love. And even the hard things our community just doesn’t like to talk about—like sex.

By the end of the events, empowered Black women have:
- danced together to celebrate their bodies
- meditated because as much as we take care of others, we must first care for ourselves
- shed tears when we shared our deepest vulnerabilities and turned them into a beautiful poem that lifted us up in sisterhood.
The events are powerful experiences. Upspoken is here to be the place where you can share your stories with no judgment. Together, we can empower each other in relationships, love and sex to be Upspoken.
